Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation occurs after an inflammation of the skin (such as from acne). It can affect white and dark-haired people, although it's more likely to occur in men than women. It often develops after sun exposure but can also occur in people who have suffered burns or other skin injuries such as frostbite.

Melasma: This condition causes dark brown patches on the face, trunk and underarms that appear on areas exposed to sunlight (such as the cheeks). Melasma usually starts as irregular brownish patches that gradually become more widespread.

Neurotrophic lentigines are small clusters of light brown spots with fine hairs growing out of each spot.

Green tea extract:

Green tea consists of epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG), catechins, and polyphenols. It has anti-pigmentation properties that help lighten the dark spots and appearance of pigmented skin. The ECGC component prevents the pigmentation process and helps to improve the skin's texture. The easiest method to use this is to rub cold green tea bags on your skin and keep them at room temperature.

Raw milk is a gentle, natural exfoliant and cleanser for the skin. The vitamins in raw milk make this a mild exfoliating and hydrating agent that tones the skin thoroughly, leaving no room for impurities. Rich in Vitamin A, raw milk is known for clearing pigmentation, scars caused due to acne and dark spots when used judiciously or in the form of a face mask. You can soak a cotton ball in milk or yoghurt and rub it on your face or directly apply the raw milk to your face for the benefits.

You can also try using homemade masks made from milk. Just mix equal amounts of milk with honey and apply it on your face for about 20 minutes, leave it on overnight and wash off with lukewarm water before going to bed. You can do this at least twice weekly to see visible results within two weeks. You can also use yoghurt instead of milk if you don't want a strong smell on your skin while using it as an exfoliant or masking agent.

Apple cider vinegar:

Apple cider vinegar can do wonders for pigmented skin because of the presence of acetic acid and polyphenols. The best way to apply apple cider vinegar is by using a mixture of water and vinegar in equal parts. Then, apply the mixture to the pigmented area and wash immediately if your skin gets irritated. You will see results after 3-4 days of regular use of this remedy, but it is advisable to continue applying it for at least 7-10 days. Apple cider vinegar also has an antibacterial effect on the affected area, so you should always wash your face with this solution before going to bed at night.
